The Damon system employs self-ligating braces that don’t need elastics to hold the arch wire into place. The system also uses a slide mechanism to reduce friction and provide a more comfortable method of smile correction.
Treatment with the Damon System is different because, unlike traditional braces, Damon braces are self-ligating. This eliminates the need for elastics and speeds up the treatment process. Treatment with Damon braces is more comfortable, faster and requires fewer visits to your dentist for adjustments than treatment with traditional metal braces.
After adjustments, you may experience a slight feeling of soreness or pressure. However, Damon braces are extremely comfortable to wear, and most patients report very little discomfort during their treatment.
Treatment times vary according to the severity of the orthodontic prescription. In more complex cases, more movement will be required, and treatment times will be longer than in cases where issues are either minor or moderate. Typically, treatment takes around 12-18 months.
Many people worry that having braces will dramatically change their diet, but this is not the case. It is true that some foods are easier to manage with braces than others, but you won’t need to make enormous changes to your normal daily diet.
