What are dental implants?
A dental implant is composed of three components: a small titanium screw that is inserted into and fuses with the jawbone, an “abutment” or post which attaches to the implant, and a crown (in the case of one implant) that fits over the abutment to provide a natural looking tooth that functions well. Dental implants may be used to replace individual teeth, multiple teeth, or all your teeth in one or both arches. In the case of a full arch, 14 teeth may be supported by as few as four implants.
How successful are dental implants?
With more than three decades of clinical experience and millions of patients treated worldwide, statistics confirm the success rate of 95% for single teeth and close to 100% of implant bridges.
How do I know if I am suitable for dental implants?
Almost everyone that has lost a tooth, several teeth or even all of their teeth is a candidate for dental implants. There are very few situations in which dental implants are not suitable. We will assess your suitability before undergoing any treatment. In certain cases, you may need a bone graft first to enable the dental implants to be placed.
Am I too old to have dental implants?
Age is not a factor for dental implant success. Bone healing around dental implants occurs in patients from the 6th to the 10th decade of life with almost equal success as in younger patients. The only thing to stand in the way of dental implant treatment in the elderly is general medical health, your Sevenoaks Dental & Implant Centre dentist can discuss this with you at your consultation.
How may teeth can be replaced with dental implants?
You can replace a single tooth, multiple teeth or all your teeth with implants. You don’t even need one implant for every missing tooth. As few as two implants can support a removable lower denture, while as few as four implants can provide a full, permanent set of top or bottom teeth.
Are dental implants expensive?
At the outset, implants are more expensive than other tooth-replacement methods such as dentures or bridgework. But they also last many years longer and in fact should never need replacement. So, they offer the best, most cost-effective option when viewed as a long-term investment in your health, comfort, and well-being.
