FAQ
We advise that parents bring their children for their first dental appointment as soon as their first tooth appears. This enables your child to get used to the sights and sounds in the dental practice. By introducing dental visits as a fun excursion, you can help to reduce the risk of dental anxiety in later life. The dentist will advise you how often you should bring your children in for their routine dental appointments.
We follow the same preventive approach with children as we do with our adult patients. Using fluoride treatments and fissure sealants to help ensure that your children have strong and healthy teeth that last a lifetime.
The dentists will also offer dietary advice on the effects that sugary snacks and drinks can have on children’s teeth and give advice on the best oral hygiene routine to follow to keep their teeth looking their best.
- Brush your children’s teeth for two minutes, twice a day using a fluoride toothpaste. They should be assisted until they can competently clean their teeth by themselves
- Limit how many sweets, sugary foods and snacks your child eats. Sugary and sticky foods attract bacteria, which can cause cavities.
- Be sure to brush your child’s teeth after giving them sugary medicines. If being prescribed antibiotics, ask for sugar free versions wherever possible.
- Help your child develop good eating habits. Choose a variety of healthy foods for family meals. Be sure to include good sources of calcium such as milk, broccoli, and yogurt.
- Attend for regular dental appointments as often as the dentist recommends.
