IV Sedation

Conscious sedation techniques are a way of making anxious people feel more relaxed about receiving dental care. There are several techniques to help you overcome your fears and anxieties.

What is conscious sedation?

Conscious sedation will help you cope with dental treatment and lower your anxiety. Even people who do not feel anxious about dental treatment choose to have conscious sedation for uncomfortable procedures such as extractions

What happens during conscious sedation?

IV sedation puts you in a safe and comfortable “semi-awake” state of reduced anxiety. After the procedure, you will most likely have little or no memory of the treatment because of the amnesic effect of the medications used to provide the sedation. While under sedation you are able to respond to verbal commands or to a light physical touch. With IV conscious sedation you need no medical assistance to maintain adequate breathing and heart function.

What aspects of dentistry can be performed under sedation?

All aspects of dentistry can be performed under sedation.

Do the dentist and nurse receive additional training for conscious sedation?

In order to perform IV sedation both the dentist and the nurse must have received additional treatment. The team at Sevenoaks Dental & Implant Centre are high qualified and have safely completed hundreds of sedation procedures.
